Rewarding and Supporting Volunteer Participation (RSVP) FundIn 2005-06 the Mayor of Sutton, Lesley O’Connell, dedicated the Mayor’s Fund to supporting volunteering in the borough. The fund, which totals £10,000, will be administered by the Volunteer Centre Sutton and the money will be used to provide small grants to support, recognise and reward volunteers. Following the death of the Volunteer Centre’s treasurer in December 2005 VCS has added £2,700 to this money to be known as the Chris Wareing Memorial Fund. This money has been set aside for trustee training for local groups. Approximately £1000 will be allocated annually and the average grant is expected to be £250.The fund’s objectives are:To encourage and support voluntary and community sector groupsTo strengthen the governing bodies of voluntary and community sector groups by providing training to trusteesTo promote volunteering as the key factor in community well-being.

The money is available to all volunteers and voluntary and community sector organisations that operate in Sutton and the panel will meet twice a year in April and November to distribute grants. The Melodie Shelbourne Memorial FundThe “Nights Away” (Accessibility) Fund administered by the RSVP team at Volunteer Centre Sutton is Melodie Shelbourne’s Memorial Fund to support disabled members of the Scouting movement in Sutton District. The purpose is to enable them to participate in “Nights Away” activities supported by volunteers who may need to be specially trained to fulfil that role. Suggested applications could be for disability awareness training for Scouters; to fund a person to accompany a disabled Scout or transport to get them to an activity. All Groups are encouraged to operate an equal opportunities policy and possibly make use of this resource.
