Volunteer Centre Sutton was first established in 1965 and operated as part of Sutton Centre for the Voluntary Sector until 1995 when it became an independent company limited by guarantee with charitable status.

Volunteer Centre Sutton is managed by a Chief Officer who is directly responsible to a Board of Trustees who holds the legal and financial responsibility for the organisation. The organisation is governed by a Memorandum and Articles of Association. The Board of Trustees consists of 11 individuals with a wide range of business and community skills. They are pro-active in the management and development of the organisation at all levels. Volunteer Centre Sutton employs 33 members of staff who are supported by 16 office volunteers.
