INFORMATION FOR USERS OF DIRECT SERVICES TRANSPORT

Direct Service volunteers, using their own cars, provide transport for residents in the London Borough of Sutton who:

·         have a physical or sensory disability or

·         are disabled due to ill health or

·         have special needs/learning disabilities and

·         are unable to use public transport or pay for a private car hire service.

 We help with transport to a variety of venues including:

·         Appointments with the doctor, dentist, chiropodist etc.

  We are unable to provide transport for hospital appointments, your G.P. or consultant can arrange hospital transport for these.

·         Occasional shopping trips

.·         Visits to day centres and clubs.

 You can ask for help on a one-off/ short-term basis (up to 6 weeks) but we ask that you give at least one week’s notice.  We will always do our best to find a suitable volunteer for you but this may not always be possible.  You can ask for help on a regular basis (weekly/ fortnightly/ monthly) but you may have to go on a waiting list.

  ALL requests are accepted at the Deputy Chief Officer or Care Co-ordinator’s discretion.

 THE COST:           The Volunteer Centre is a registered Charity.  Direct Services is able to help you through volunteers giving up their free time and through financial support from the Local Authority and from donations.  We do not charge for our service but we are grateful for any donations you may wish to give.  You can do this by putting your donation into an envelope with your name and your volunteer’s name on it and handing it to the volunteer who will pass it on to us.  If you prefer, you can send a cheque made payable to ‘Volunteer Centre Sutton’ to the address at the end of these notes.  We reimburse volunteer expenses.
